Chief Secretary Inspects Mpatamanga Hydro-Power Project as Malawi Accelerates Energy Compact Implementation

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr.Justin Sadack Saidi inspected the progress of Mpatamanga Hydropower Project to monitor the energy sectors’ progress in implementing the Malawi National Energy Compact. The visit has demonstrated Governments’ commitment in implementing projects in the Energy Compact.

Once completed, the Mpatamanga project will add 356.8MW into the national electricity grid. The project is being supported bydevelopment partners, including the World Bank and the Government of Malawi, through EGENCO, holds 30% shares.

After touring Mpatamanga Project site in Neno,the Chief Secretary held a meeting with Ministry of Energy and Mining, EGENCO,ESCOM and GEAPP.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr Saidi emphasized that “come 2030, Malawians must not just hear about progress, they must experience it in their homes, in their businesses, and in their daily lives”. He further urged EGENCO and ESCOM to continue submitting monthly reports on progress on projects in the Energy Compact.
