The Kamuzu International Airport Solar project is a grid connected Solar Photovoltaic project implemented by the Department of Energy Affairs in 2013. With funding from the Japanese govern under the cool earth initiative, the project is located at KIA and with Civil Aviation as its beneficiary.  Through the Cool Earth Initiative, the Japanese Government gave Malawi a grant (USD 6 million) to install a solar power plant at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA). The objective of the Project is to promote clean energy utilization and achieve emissions reduction by installing the PV system connected to the national grid.
