Background of the Project

The government of Japan (GoJ) established the Cool Earth Partnership to the Government of Malawi for the construction of an 830 kW grid-connected Solar PV project at the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA). Through this, GoJ cooperates actively with developing countries' efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as efforts to promote clean energy.  Through a grant aid for Environment and Climate Change, and according to the initiative of the Cool Earth Partnership, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in consultation with GoJ, decided to implement Clean Energy Promotion Using Photovoltaic System in Malawi.

Objective of the Project

The objective of the Project is to promote clean energy utilization and achieve emissions reduction by use of the PV system connected to the grid
