Mpatamanga Resettlement Programme Advances with Construction of Modern Homes for Affected Communities

The Mininstry of Energy and Mining, continues to make steady progress on the Mpatamanga Hydropower Storage Project, with resettlement construction now actively underway.

A total of 45 modern houses are being constructed in this phase across designated resettlement sites, comprising one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom and an 8-block primary school tailored to meet the needs of affected households.

The new houses represent a significant a social consideration in the project. The new houses will also upgrade living conditions for affected families. The constructed houses have a modern kitchen,toilet and bathroom. Many of the affected communities previously lived in traditional structures, and they will be relocated into safer, more durable, and better-planned homes.

The resettlement programme is designed not only to facilitate project development, but also to improve the quality of life for communities through enhanced housing standards, improved spatial planning, and access to basic services.

The Mpatamanga Hydropower Storage Project is expected to deliver long-term national benefits through additional of 358.5MW into the grid
